The District of Kypseli continues to draw tourists from all over the world, and there are numerous foreign-owned stores and companies there.
The Meteoritis bookstore, founded by Frenchman Benoit Durandin, is a neighbourhood favourite and carries books, magazines, and zines in Greek, English, and French. In 2021, British bike manufacturer Tom Donhou moved his Donhou Bicycles Shop and Retail location here. In his studio, Icelander Halldor Ulfarsson crafts his own invention, the Halldorophone, as well as other avant-garde musical instruments.
The cuisine choices in Kypseli are just as diverse as its culture. Elisabeth and Tsehay Taddasse, who are from Addis Ababa, have been serving wonderful Ethiopian food at Lalibela for twenty years; the restaurant’s traditional design gives customers a taste of Ethiopian aesthetics. Tastes of Damascus, which was formed by Za’atar, a local NGO that assists refugees find work, serves authentic Syrian falafel under the trees on Fokionos Negri.
The community benefited from the renovation of Aghios Georgios Square in 2014. One of Athens’ most lovely squares was created because to the removal of most of the automotive traffic from this circular plaza. All ages of people gather here. Young artists are frequently seen drinking coffee or cocktails at VILATZ. In a cozy setting on the square, Kyveli dishes up traditional taverna fare with a high-end twist, and Solo Gelato’s delicious frozen sweets help everyone stay cool in the summer heat.
