Kypseli, like every neighborhood in Athens, has a local farmer’s market called a “Laiki.” The majority of people like this once-a-week market since it offers the best value for their money when it comes to fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, honey, and other goods.
I enjoy going to these markets not only because I can find anything I need there, but also because it’s entertaining to joke around with the vendors. You can’t help but hear the shouting if you go there. By yelling about how gorgeous the customer is and how she should get these cherries to look even better or about how affordable their goods are, the salespeople are attempting to sell their products.
If you have a strong sense of humor, be brave and approach the “Laiki” sellers.
Extra advice is to visit the Kypseli farmer’s market around the end of the market, between 14:00 and 14:30. Prices drop significantly once the market closes, and you will leave with some delicious and high quality produce!
